Shane Lowney - Skilled at Mechanical Engineering

Shane Lowney has always been comfortable working on machinery and technology throughout his life. He excelled in auto shop and mechanics in high school in his native Tampa, Florida and went off to the Florida Technical Institute in Melbourne, Florida to earn his BS in Mechanical Engineering. He also met his wife Christine there as well. Today, Lowney lives in Tampa, Florida, his home town, where he works full-time at a factory, tuning up heavy machinery and fixing it if breaks down. Lowney also works for several independent clients in the area, designing machinery for small businesses and farmers and helping them with any maintenance issues as needed. Lowney also managed to earn his pilot’s license while attending FTI in Melbourne, and today he files his very own Cessna 182 aircraft above Tampa Bay. He takes passengers with him at times to help them see the beautiful sights of the area from above.

Shane Lowney wanted to become skilled at mechanical engineering because of his penchant for working on machines and solving technical issues. He also wanted a long and rewarding career for himself. Mechanical engineers can find work in many different industries. They can provide mechanical engineering services to small businesses, as Lowney does, they can get work with any company that has to deal with sophisticated or large machinery on a regular basis, also as Lowney does, and many even find jobs in the space industry as mechanics and designers for spacecraft. Lowney learned about Mechanical Engineering from some of the top engineers in the country at FTI, and with the college’s close proximity to Florida’s Space Coast, he got to see how engineers work on spacecraft and mechanisms used in spacecraft.

Shane Lowney stayed on Earth, of course, but his love of flying went right with his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He took his skills with machines and engines and put them to use on his very own Cessna 182 aircraft, which he purchased outright after working for a few years in Tampa. He can fix problems with the Cessna’s engine and propellers himself and doesn’t have to find mechanics to work on it for him. He has made several modifications to his Cessna that allow for better passenger comfort while adding engine power and efficiency at the same time. Throughout his professional career, Lowney has earned the trust of many different small businesses and clients who use his services to improve their own services and products locally.

Shane Lowney hopes that he can continue to do what he loves for a living and he recommends a degree in Mechanical Engineering to anyone interested in learning how machines and mechanisms work on their most fundamental levels and more.
