A Brief Explanation of Engineering Featuring Shane Lowney

Engineering is a broad term used to describe the application of empirical evidence, math, and economic, social, scientific, and practical knowledge. This application is then further used to design, build, and maintain machines, systems, structures, and processes. The term itself can be dated back to 1300. As a discipline, Engineering encompasses an array of specialized fields with different emphases on specific areas of applied science and technology.  Shane Lowney is a graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) who garnered a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Shane specializes in designing and manufacturing weapon systems, transportation products, and engines. Other branches of Engineering include Chemical, Civil, Electrical, and Systems.  These are just a few of the main categories. Engineering as a whole has an extensive list of sub-disciplines derived from extensions of the main branches. There is also typically an overlap between Engineering and Science. Both o

Flying High With Engineer Shane Lowney

The dream to fly is often shared by many as children.  While the dream may evolve a little bit to something more attainable sometimes this dream also continues into adulthood.  This was certainly the case for Shane Lowney – a Tampa, Florida Mechanical Engineer. From a young age Shane knew he wanted to be in the sky.  He would spend countless hours daydreaming about not only flying but building an airplane of his own.  These dreams along with growing up the son of an Engineer are what attracted Shane to the idea of becoming involved in both piloting and Mechanical Engineering. Shane attended the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) where one of these dreams would begin to blossom into reality.  Here he met his future wife Christine, who only further motivated him to achieve his goals.  They both graduated with degrees in their own respective categories of Engineering. Shane has not yet built his dream plane.  However, he has fulfilled his desire to fly.  Shane obt
