Shane Lowney on Flying his Cessna 182

Shane Lowney wanted to a fighter pilot when he was a boy. As he grew up, he had to abandon that dream to attend the Florida Institute of Technology and major in Mechanical Engineering, a profession that allows him the freedom and the stability to buy his own plane and fly. Lowney works for a local engineering firm in Tampa Bay, Florida. He and his wife Catherine live in Tampa and love to take the Cessna out for a spin whenever they can. Lowney is busy in his duties as the project management coordinator for the engineering company for which he works in addition to his freelancing operations as an engineer for various local clients, but he loves to take the Cessna out with his wife whenever possible.

The Cessna 182 was originally introduced in 1956. It is the second-most popular Cessna model after only the 180. The model became so popular because of the ease of use and the utility of the aircraft and the improvements that were added after the release of the first models. Shane Lowney wanted a small plane he and his wife could zip around in and the four-seat capacity of the 182 makes that possible while adding extra room for friends. Between 1956, when the original 182 came out and 1967, Cessna came out with a variety of variants of their second-most popular model.

Shane Lowney loves to fly his Cessna 182 whenever he has a chance. He loves the classic design and the quickness of its handling in the air, as well as its zippy engine. The Lowneys can be found cruising the airways above a small airstrip they rent out every once in a while near their home in Tampa Bay.
