Shane Lowney’s Tips on Giving Back

Volunteering one’s available resources whether it is time, money, or both can be a rewarding practice that almost anyone can and should take part in.  Shane Lowney is a successful Mechanical Engineer who has practiced a compassion for others since he was young.  Here are a few ways to start getting involved in giving back to the community:
  1. Volunteer at a local animal shelter.
  2. Organize a garage sale and donate the proceeds to charity.
  3. Have a mild tempered pet?  Take them to local retirement homes and/or hospitals to visit.
  4. Volunteer for various children’s organizations such as a local church group, the YMCA, and daycare centers.
  5. Head down to the local soup kitchen or food bank and help hand out meals.
  6. Make essential kits containing hand warmers, gum, small nonperishable items, and other various necessities to hand out to the homeless.
  7. Participate in food drives year round and near the holidays.
  8. Join Habitat for Humanity and help build homes for those in need.
  9. Encourage others to get involved.
  10. Donate old toys, shoes, clothes etc.
  11. Pick up trash around the neighborhood or with a community service team.
  12. In the winter months help elderly neighbors by shoveling their driveways and stairs for them.
  13. Visit nursing homes and spend time with those who don’t get many visitors or whose family doesn’t live nearby.
These are just a small fraction of examples of the many things that can be done to help.  Giving back can be done at any age and regardless of one’s own financial standing.  Shane Lowney and his wife volunteer at various charitable organizations several times a month as well as donate yearly to different charities they are each passionate about.
